Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! A little late :) Here are just a few random shots from that day. We had quiet day with Casey's parents, all of his sisters were at their other family's so it was just us!

I couldn't get Casey to quit making goofy faces so whatever...here he is with the turkey.

Casey

So I'm on my mother-in-law's computer and found some sweet pictures of Casey as he was growing up....just wanted to put them up for all of posterity :)

Back in Time

Allright, I finally got a hold of some halloween pictures. Dennis (Casey's Dad) took these pictures at the Schanz Halloween Party.

Here is a shot of Megan's awesome turtle costume, yes I made it.
Fishing for some prizes:

Sigh. .......... if you can't figure this costume out then you don't even want to know........

Huge pumpkins that grandma and grandpa won the the local pumkin contest with

Megan with her cousin Taybree (I'm not sure how to spell that)

It was loads of fun, with 'lot's of candy and good food!!

21 months

It has been a while since I have updated on Megan and she is 21 months!! I right these posts in hopes that I will later write them all down in her scrapbook or some sort of book for her to have so sorry if these are boring for you to read. I have no pictures because our camera is stupid and won't turn on, or I'm just stupid and can't figure it out, anyway....
Megan has grown up so much and everyday her personality starts shining through. She is so independant and yet still such a mommy's girl. She must do things her own way, especially eating and putting on her pants. She loves her stuffed animals, a big teddy bear and a puppy with a few others. She loves to take care of them, feed them whatever it is she is eating, change their diapers and make sure they are involved in what we are doing. According to our scale she is just over 20 lbs. and I have no idea how tall she is but she has finally grown out of her 9 month size pants and is into wearing a 12 month size :)
She can say a lot of words and is always trying to mimmic what Casey and I say, as well as do. It is so funny, she'll look at the way I am sitting and then make sure her hands and everything are in the same position. We have been staying with Casey's sister in Utah and they have a trampoline, Megan's new favorite toy, she says it "pompaleen". She also loves to sing or rather listen to me sing and follow along, ring around the rosie, itsy-bitsy spider, and "my hands upon my head I place.." (from the children's songbook) are a few of her favorites. Her favorite movies are 101 Dalmations "puppies" and the Aristocats "kitties". When she says her name it sounds like "stinky" it's pretty hilarious we ask her, 'what is your name?' and she replies, 'i stinky' aahhaahhaa.
She is our endless source of entertainment. One of her favorite activities is coloring, with a pen or pencil. she can draw a circle and a 'straight' line and constantly wants me to draw a star, a puppy and a kitty. Casey and I usually have to bribe her with candy in order to get kisses or hugs from her.
Megan is full of energy and attitude, I think she will be an awesome big sister! :)

Number 3

Looks like we're going to have a little girl here in 4 1/2 more months! Feb. 24th is the due date and sorry no belly pictures or ultrasound pics....maybe before she's born :) Everything looked awesome in the ultrasound and we are totally excited, ok there could be a little more excitment on Casey's part due to the fact that it's not going to be a boy but his heart will melt everytime his little girls give him kisses and hugs!

September anyone?

I don't know what happened but I haven't posted a single thing in the month of September and now it's gone......well there was my birthday, Carter's birthday, my mom and sister came to visit, and finally our 4th wedding anniversary. And not a single picture to show for it :) Awesome, anyway Casey has finished his first rotation in surgery and is now working at an Urgent Care, a cross between the ER and a family practice, I'm using the term "work" very loosely here as we are paying for him to be there not the other way around. He is ridiculously excited for hunting season which starts in a week, and we have been searching the countryside for deer. Well, October here we come, oh and don't worry we have snow on the ground.

Plans Change

No matter how much time and preparation you put into them. Sometimes they change so drastically it's almost humorous how arrogant we are to think that we may be in control of our lives. Then there are those life altering changes where it seems as though the world stops and you can't breathe. Three years ago Carter was born on a Friday afternoon and our plans changed.
In one week our plans for the school semester and carefully crafted schedules became unimportant. The plans we had of a healthy baby boy being born in October were deemed extraordinarily incorrect. Our doctors noticed something wrong in an ultrasound when I was 20 weeks along, assuring us it would be easily fixed when he was born, which we were assured would happen in Rexburg, again extraordinarily incorrect.
We met with a neonatologist in Salt Lake City when I was 33 weeks along, it was a Friday. He informed us we would be delivering at the University of Utah hospital and our baby would be immediately transferred to Primary Children's Medical Center, for an exploratory surgery. He was hopeful that whatever was wrong could be fixed but told us to be prepared for a situation where it couldn't. We drove home that Tuesday with optimism, we didn't know exactly what would happen in the next month but we felt good.....then I started having contractions. By Thursday I made Casey take me to the hospital and for the next 10 weeks the world stopped turning.
Carter was perfect, we got to see him in an incubator, all hooked up to a million tubes for just a minute before they took him to Primary's. I got to hold him later that night and we prepared to get some answers the next day after his surgery. But you can never prepare for the answers we heard that day. Our little boy would never grow up, he wouldn't learn to walk or talk, drive a car, or have children of his own.
That night when the nurse woke me to take my vital signs, for a brief second I had forgotten everything and as I turned to face her everything flooded back. A physical weight of discouragement stopped me from moving and I wanted to go back to sleep and never wake up again, just stay in that dreamland where everything was ok and I didn't have to decide how my little boy was going to die.
But, we got up the next morning and every morning after that, exhausted but the discouragement soon disappeared. Family, friends and wonderful nurses rallied around us, offering prayers and blessings, lifting us up and helping us along. The simple truths that we have known all our lives became our daily sustenance. Carter would be able to grow up, and we would still be his parents because of the awesome power of the priesthood and temple ordinances. And today, three years later, those truths are still evident in our lives. Our home is filled with Carter's pictures and our memories continuously visited be his awesome experience. Our plans changed and I have been so blessed and so grateful that they did.

Crunch

So here is our lovely car.....after it was rammed by a huge ford pickup, an old one from when they made cars out of metal. Needless to say we are now driving a mini-van, a rental, and Casey is desperately trying to find another car :) Here are just a couple pic's of Megan, funny faces.

Petting Zoo

This our new favorite place. The pet store just down the road has an awesome petting zoo, Megan loves to see the puppys and then to run around outside and see all the animals. Here is the cutest basset hound :)

Camping and 18 Months

We are back in civilization! This is a bouquet of wild flowers Casey picked for me, I was very impressed by the colors he chose. We spent the last 5 days in Island Park, just north of St. Anthony, camping with the Schanzs. Megan had a blast as well as Casey and I :)
Three out of four of Casey's sisters were able to make it and it was so much fun to watch all the kids runing around. It brought back a lot of memories of my own childhood, camping in the woods.
We went for a little hike, had 'lots of four-wheeler rides, many smores by the campfire and went to Big Springs to see the ginormous fish, they really liked our cheese that we brought to feed them.
We have been up to Island Park many times but have never gotten our lazy butts up to go to church on Sunday morning, so this time we decided we better go. Amazing! They have two buildings just to accomodate for the amount of visitors they have every week, and this wasn't even a holiday weekend. Their church building was full to the brim, broadcasting the sacrament meeting into the relief society and primary rooms. We were in the second building, a really neat log cabin that was full to the brim, there were even people sitting outside on the grass. I think there was close to 1,000 people there, 95% of them were visitors. It was just amazing to see so many saints clamoring to get a seat at church instead of so many empty pews that we are used to in our home ward, and they were all on vacation!
Well Megan is 18 months old! She can now officially be in nursery allthough she has been going with me for the past few months. She is just a hoot, makes us laugh everyday. She is also very stubborn, has to do everything her way and on her own. She is a very picky eater and something she likes today will most likely be thrown back at me tomorrow. But, pickles and pimento still seem to be a big hit. She wants to do and be a part of everything you're doing. Some of her new words are mamo and bapo for grandma and grandpa, she'll say nienie for her cousin Sydney, nanie for candy, and pop for popsicle, which she loves.

She looking mighty cool in these shades with her phone, and yes she can still fit into her infant carseat :)
Just a cute sleeping picture, she slept in until 10 this morning, camping really wore her out.
This is Skyler, they have a love hate relationship :) Skyler is so excited to see her but likes to boss her around which doesn't go over very well with Megan.
Here's dad and Megan, you can see the corner of our canvas tent in the background, thank you Dennis! It stayed nice and warm throughout the night.

She loved the fourwheeler, it took a while to warm up to it. The little helmet is just hilarious.
Here are some more pretty flowers, and it was still so green up there considering the time of year.

Casey, My Man

It is finished! Casey's first year of PA school, down the drain :) He did very well and is so excited to start rotations. The first one is scheduled for Blackfoot, General Surgery, so we will be staying in Chubbuck. His second rotation is in Idaho Falls and then Salt Lake, so any Salt Lakeans who would like visitors for 4 or 5 weeks let us know :) It's off to camping this weekend so we need to stock up on lot's of sunscreen and bug spray!

Washington

We just got back from a long trip to Washington, Casey is once again the reigning champion of International Court Soccer!! They play in a raquetball court, one on one or doubles, with the same rules as raquetball but with a soccer ball (they get three "touches" with the ball), it looks a bit like a huge tennis ball. We drove to Seattle for the tournament and got to go to a Seattle Sounders game, so fun! the fans there are awesome, so loud! Casey had to fly home for classes, but Megan and I drove down to Vancouver to spend some time with my fam. Here are some pics of the Oregon Coast, the best!

It was Megan first beach sighting and she loved it until she face planted it into the wet sand. It took seeing someone's puppy to make her happy again. Here are some pics of a park we went to with the cousins Deacon and Olson with Sara.
It was hilarious to watch Megan run through this water. She would get close and then come out saying, "Brrrrrrrr" all hunched over.

We ended up going to this park after we tried to get into the zoo. Ridiculous! It was $2 Tuesday and there was no where to park including the shuttle parking and ridiculously long lines at both places, so the park was our second choice.
It was so nice to see my family and have some fun, but we missed Casey so here we are back home in Idaho! (still no internet at the apartment though)
